New federal National Heat Pump Rebate — announced October 8, 2026
The Government of Canada announced a new heat-pump rebate of up to $10,000 CAD for eligible below-median-income households and $2,000 CAD for other eligible households. The announcement states that these rebates can be combined with eligible provincial programs, subject to the program rules.
Important: An announcement is not an approved rebate application. As of October 18, 2026, do not treat this as an open application portal or promise that your installation qualifies. Check official program launch, eligibility, sequencing and stacking rules before signing a contract.

1. BC Hydro: converting from electric heating
For eligible homes replacing primary electric baseboards or an electric furnace with a qualifying heat pump, BC Hydro publishes $4,000 for eligible whole-home heating and $1,500 for eligible partial-home heating. It excludes replacing an existing heat pump and has specific equipment, sizing and installer requirements.
As of today BC Hydro also advertises a promotional bonus of up to $1,000. For that offer, an eligible installation must be completed, invoiced and paid for between August 1 and October 31, 2026, with the full application by November 30, 2026. Availability is limited; missing the cutoff or exhausting the funding can mean no bonus. Read BC Hydro conditions
2. Better Homes: income-qualified households
BC's Energy Savings Program lists heat-pump rebates reaching up to $13,000 for eligible ground-oriented homes and qualifying upgrades. Actual maximums differ by household income tier, dwelling, current heating type and selected equipment. The official eligibility requirements changed for invoices dated on or after July 6, 2026.
The program generally requires homeowners to pre-register, obtain an eligibility code, and work with an Energy Savings Program registered contractor. Don't install first and assume the program can reimburse you afterwards. It also has separate rules for condo and apartment units. Review the current program and pre-registration flow
3. FortisBC: newly available dual-fuel incentives
FortisBC has a $4,000 incentive for qualifying dual-fuel systems and a separate up to $8,000 income-qualified option. These pair an electric heat pump with a compatible high-efficiency gas furnace and generally require replacement of an existing primary gas furnace at least 15 years old.
FortisBC states that eligible installations must be completed on or after October 15, 2026, with qualifying equipment and an appropriately licensed Home Performance Contractor Network member. The income-qualified offer includes additional household income, assessed property value and dwelling requirements and bars stacking with other specified funded programs. Four steps before you spend
- Identify your primary heating fuel: electricity, natural gas, propane or another source. Start from the correct program.
- Confirm your home and income eligibility: property type, utility account, any assessed-value cap and program area requirements matter.
- Check the contractor and product: make sure the specific technician/contractor network status and exact equipment combination qualify.
- Document deadlines and paperwork: pre-registration, commissioning sheets, invoices, heat-load calculations and application deadlines can differ.
Some municipalities and targeted communities offer additional incentives, but coverage is not universal. Check the program's own location eligibility rather than assuming every Langley, Surrey or Abbotsford address qualifies for a top-up.
Common questions
Can I automatically combine every listed rebate?
No. Eligibility, program overlap restrictions, caps and deadlines differ. In particular, FortisBC’s dual-fuel program has explicit non-stacking restrictions. Ask the program administrator before ordering equipment.
Is the BC Hydro October 2026 bonus still running?
As of October 18, 2026, BC Hydro advertises a limited bonus for qualifying installations completed and paid for by October 31, 2026, with application due by November 30, 2026. Funding is first-come, first-served and can end earlier.
Do I need to hire a special contractor?
Often yes. BC Hydro and Better Homes programs have Home Performance Contractor Network or registered-contractor requirements. Confirm the specific program’s rules before installation.
Will Valley Home Fix apply for a rebate for me?
No. We are not a program administrator, installer or eligibility assessor. Use the linked official program websites and a qualified contractor to confirm requirements.
