Help for homeowners in Greater Vancouver and the Fraser Valley
Too hot to feel comfortable at home? Start here.
When it is too hot to sleep, too hot to rest, and too hot to enjoy being at home, everything feels harder. Nights are broken, days drag, and you just want your home to feel cool and comfortable again — with a decent person you trust coming through the door.
You do not need to know what is broken or what it is called. Tell us what is happening in your own words, and we will let you know whether we can help you get in contact with an independent local air conditioning contractor for the work you need.
Call Valley Home FixNo online form. No account. Just a phone call when you are ready. Contractor availability and callbacks are not guaranteed. Valley Home Fix is not a repair company or an emergency dispatch service.
What is happening in your home right now?
Pick what sounds like your home. You do not need the right technical name.
AC not cooling
It runs, but the house stays warm.
Blowing warm air
Air comes from the vents, but it is not cool.
AC leaking water
Water dripping or pooling around the indoor unit.
AC will not turn on
Nothing happens when you try to start it.
Some rooms cool, others hot
Cooling is uneven from room to room.
Thinking about a heat pump
You want cooling in summer and heating help in winter, and want to understand options and possible rebates first.
Safe first checks
Only do what feels safe, and stop if you are unsure. Do not open panels, take units apart, or try gas or electrical repairs yourself.
- Check the thermostat: is it set to cool, and set lower than the room temperature?
- Check that vents are not blocked by furniture, rugs, or curtains.
- Note whether the indoor unit is running, and whether air is coming from the vents at all.
- If water is leaking, try to catch it with towels, and move anything that could be damaged.
- Note the make and model of your unit if you can see it without taking anything apart.
- Note when the problem started, and whether it is getting worse.
When to call
Call when the problem is still there after your safe checks, when your home stays too hot to sleep or rest comfortably, or when water is leaking from the unit. You do not have to wait until a heat wave to ask for help — but if water is spreading quickly, or water is near electrical outlets or panels, do not wait for a regular callback. See the emergency box below.
Call Valley Home FixWhat happens after you call
Call Valley Home Fix and tell us what is happening at home, and which city you are in. We will listen and let you know whether we can help you get in contact with an independent local air conditioning contractor for the work you need. If a suitable contractor relationship is available for your area and the type of work needed, we can help you make that connection.
The contractor decides whether to accept the work and is responsible for the required credentials, licences, and qualifications. Valley Home Fix does not verify, vet, screen, or guarantee those credentials — ask the contractor about their qualifications before hiring them. The contractor can discuss the problem, explain the proposed work, and tell you the price before work starts. You decide whether to go ahead. If you do, you pay the contractor directly — not Valley Home Fix.
Contractor availability and callbacks are not guaranteed. A call to Valley Home Fix is not a booking, and it does not guarantee that a contractor is available at a particular time.
What affects the cost
No reliable price can be given from a short description alone, and this page does not quote prices. A contractor will usually need to understand the problem first. Things that can affect the cost include:
- What the problem is and how hard it is to reach.
- How long the work takes, and whether parts are needed.
- Whether it is a simple repair, a part replacement, or a larger system change.
- For a new system, the size of your home and the type of system chosen.
Ask the contractor to explain the work and the price before work starts, including parts and any call-out or minimum charge, so there are no surprises.
It is your home. You should feel comfortable with who is working in it.
- A decent, honest person who treats your home with respect and cleans up.
- Price explained before work starts.
- You decide, without pressure.
- Plain words, no jargon.
- You pay the person doing the work directly.
Is this an emergency? Do not wait for a callback.
Water spreading quickly: shut off the water if it is safe to do so, and call an emergency plumber directly. Do not wait for a regular callback.
Water near electrics: keep clear of any area where water is near lights, outlets, wiring, or an electrical panel, and contact emergency services where there is immediate danger.
Smell gas: leave the building and, once safely outside, call FortisBC at 1-800-663-9911 or 911.
Carbon monoxide alarm sounds: get everyone outside and call 911.
Valley Home Fix is not an emergency dispatch service.
